PRINT AND EBOOK DESIGN, PRODUCTION, CHILDRENS, ILLUSTRATED, PHOTOGRAPHY BOOKS
A new member of YOUR EXPERT NATION, Kevin Callahan is an expert in print and ebook design and production. He has been creating publications from the early days of desktop to today’s cloud-based publishing solutions for companies including SCHOLASTIC and the Associated Press, and for many independent authors.
Kevin is a designer who understands what makes a beautiful, useful print book, and who can also create its compelling digital adaptation or e-original publication.
His workflow can include taking the book from manuscript to design to print mechanical and on to EPUB/MOBI. Or, with YEN colleagues, Kevin can enter the project or campaign at any stage for one or more tasks.
Kevin trains staffs at large publishing houses and small presses, as well as self-published authors, emphasizing the value of early editorial, design, and production planning.
Among the services Kevin provides:
- cover and interior design, including art direction of illustrators and photo editors
- typeset/page composition
- EPUB and MOBI adaptations
- e-original designs for EPUB and MOBI
- reflowable and fixed-layout files for all platforms
He is the proprietor of BNGO Books, a print and ebook design and production studio based in New York. Kevin is an Adjunct Instructor in Pace University’s Masters in Publishing program, teaching desktop and cloud-based digital publishing. Kevin speaks at conferences and shares his experience on social media regularly. He demonstrates his approach to designing and creating fixed-layout books for the Kindle in his course for Lynda.com. He is also editor-in-chief of epubsecrets.com and posts on Digital Book World.
